Why small

Most software problems worth solving are narrower than the software built to solve them. A team of two people with a clear idea of who they're building for will beat a much larger team with a roadmap, most of the time, on the things that matter to the person using it.

That's the whole thesis. Pick a job that a specific group of people does badly today, build the smallest thing that does it well, charge for it, and stay close enough to the users to keep it honest.

How the studio is set up

Every product we make runs under the same shell — the same stack, the same deployment pipeline, the same way of handling accounts and billing and support. That's why we can launch something new without hiring a new team for it, and why an early product doesn't need thousands of customers to be worth keeping alive.

The client work funds the products, and the products keep the client work sharp. Neither side is a side project.

How we decide what to build

We build things we've needed. A problem has to show up repeatedly, in our own work or in work we're doing for someone else, before it earns a domain name. That filter is slower than chasing ideas, and it's the reason the list on the projects page is short.

Where we are

Registered and operating in New Brunswick, Canada. We work with clients wherever they are, and we're comfortable overlapping with most time zones for a few hours a day.
